Impress buys more canmaking capacity in the US

Impress Group has expanded its canmaking capacity in the US with the acquisition of a can and endmaking plant in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, from Connors Bros Income Fund, the parent company of America’s largest branded seafood companies Clover Leaf and Bumble Bee. The facility is Impress’ sixth in the US, and manufactures aluminium cans and ends for sardines which are packed at Clover Leaf’s processing plant in Blacks Harbour and Bumble Bee Seafoods factory in Maine. Says Impress’ chief executive Francis Labbé: “In addition to expanding our business with a major strategic customer, we are also adding high-quality assets to our North American operation and strengthening our position as the world’s leading supplier of cans for seafood.” Impress USA was formed in 2000 following the acquisition of the Starkist canmaking assets from H J Heinz.
