Orora’s distinctive cans help launch “high performance” coffee

Australia-based canmaker Orora Packaging has helped an instant-coffee brand with the design of cans using distinctive decorative finishes for its first ready-to-drink (RTD) product.

Brisbane’s Beforeyouspeak had developed a “high performance” cold press unsweetened black coffee using Colombian beans infused with ginseng, turmeric and black pepper. The coffee also contains MCT oil, which is often consumed as a supplement for dieters and fitness enthusiasts. Launched in March, the project had been in planning for three years.

Matt Brassington at Beforeyouspeak wanted a label that reflected the sophistication of the product and worked with Orora to decorate the 330ml aluminium slim cans accordingly.

The result was a matt black and gold label for the unsweetened coffee and a creamy beige and brown label for a caramel flavoured version.

“The can artwork was designed in-house by myself and the team,” said Brassington. “We worked with Orora to colour match and achieve the metallic gold and matt finish.”

On the coffee maker’s website, it said: “It has been a huge team effort and after being faced with every complication possible, we have come out on top.”

Orora makes the cans at its Rocklea plant, in the southern suburbs of Brisbane in Queensland. The packaging producer and canmaker has three other beverage can plants in Australia: Revesby (New South Wales); Dandenong (Victoria); and Perth (Western Australia).
