Pasteuriser provides canners with flexibility

A tunnel pasteuriser has been introduced by German equipment company KHS, which is said to offer drinks canners a high degree of microbiological safety and flexibility.

The Innopas SX (pictured above) uses a modular design to meet the growing demand from the beverage industry for pasteurisers that are able handle an increasingly complex range of products, packed in cans, glass and PET bottles. KHS has also optimised spare parts management for this flexible machine.

While the basic functions of the Innopas SX are the same as previous systems, it has several new features. These include extended functions in the dynamic pasteurisation unit (PU) control system, which result in greater flexibility while providing savings in energy and water use. Individual zone temperatures are automatically raised or lowered depending on the conveyor speed.

“This allows the pasteuriser to dynamically adjust to match the line behaviour within a range of 50 to 105 percent of the nominal capacity for most processes without making any drastic changes to the PUs and maximum product temperature,” says Knut Soltau, KHS product manager.

With a new programme for the PU control, customers can independently adapt the PU set point for a specific container type.
