Stacked beer cans in sleeves offer a blending experience

A brewer in New Zealand that sells varieties of its beers in pairs of 250ml cans wrapped in a single sleeve label has received a big order from the Coles supermarket chain in Australia.

Urbanaut Brewing’s Beer Blender range is designed to deliver a variety of flavour experiences by allowing consumers to blend the contents of the cans in various proportions. Based in Auckland in North Island, Urbanaut Brewing exports products to China, UK and Australia, as well as selling them in New Zealand.

While the Coles order is for the brewery’s latest Salted Caramel IPA x Baked Pear Sour blend, next in the Urbanaut pipeline for New Zealand is a Black Forest Stout x Espresso Scotch Ale, it was reported.

An early example of blended beer included Yuzu-lime sour mixed Szechuan pepper Kolsch, while last summer the brewery introduced a shandy blender, a can of craft lemonade from Karma Cola mixed with its Kingsland Pilsner.

Urbanaut Brewing was founded by Bruce Turner, who came up with the idea of blended beers. “We’re still the only ones doing it but we’re anticipating others will pick it up,” he said.
